For five years, Rainbow School Complex has welcomed young German volunteers through its partnership with Internationaler Bund (IB) Kassel — young people who live with the Morfaw family, teach ICT, and help run the school's administrative work.
One of the most distinctive and human aspects of Rainbow School Complex is its long-running volunteer programme, made possible through a five-year partnership with Internationaler Bund (IB) — a German welfare, education and social organisation based in Kassel.
How the programme works
German volunteers — typically young people completing a voluntary service year — travel to Dschang and are hosted by the Morfaw family. From Monday to Friday they work at Rainbow School, teaching ICT (computer science), supporting German language sessions and helping with administrative tasks such as marking tests and digitising exam records. On weekends and during school holidays, they explore Cameroon and experience its culture firsthand.
A mutual exchange
The programme is not one-directional. German volunteers gain an extraordinary life experience — living with a Cameroonian family, working in a school environment very different from anything they know at home, and developing a lasting connection to Africa. Rainbow's students gain access to technology education, a window to European culture and the energy that young international volunteers always bring.
